Kid Co.
Business School
A hands-on school for enterprising whippersnappers
Make something. Sell it at the market.
Kid Co. Business School is a seven-week after-school program for children aged 10–13 in Nightcliff, Darwin. The group chooses a handmade product, figures out how to make it, sets a price, and sells it to real customers at Nightcliff Sunday Market. The final session wraps up the experience together — what worked, what didn’t, and what everyone learned.
The program is grounded in inquiry-based learning. Rather than being taught how businesses work, participants work it out for themselves. It’s hands-on, collaborative, and built around a genuine goal: a real stall, with real products, serving a real community.

About the facilitator
Tom Allen has a background in social enterprise and small business, and has worked with young people across outdoor education and holiday program contexts. He holds a current NT Ochre Card (Working with Children check) and a current First Aid and CPR qualification.
Fees — pay what you feel
Kid Co. runs on a pay-what-you-feel basis. It costs roughly $175 per child to run the program. Pay more if you can, less if you need to, nothing if that’s where you’re at. Every child who wants a place gets one.
Any surplus from fees or market day sales goes directly into a seed fund for future rounds of the program — reducing costs for the next cohort.
